On the sidelines of the 6th replenishment of the Global Fund to Fight Malaria, HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis scheduled for 10 October 2019 in Lyon (Paris), Gabon’s civil society, under the leadership of Renap/ AJ as part of the “Love more Give more” Global Campaign organized by GFAN Asia Pacific and supported by GFAN Africa and CS4ME, came together to write and hand advocacy letters to national leaders and ambassadors from donor countries of the Global Fund.
As a reminder, at the end of the 32nd African Union Summit, the Heads of State made a commitment to make greater local investments in the health sector. Thus, the Civil Society of Gabon under the lead of, Renaps/AJ made a masterstroke by meeting and delivering the advocacy letter to the Gabonese Vice-President, His Excellency Pierre Claver MAGANGA MOUSSAVOU. During this audience, the Vice-President reiterated the President of the Republic’s commitment to health and other issues and was attentive to the seriousness of the situation in Gabon, the sub-region and engagement of Gabon health civil society. He also pledged to ensure an increase in the health budget to 10% of the national budget and to convene a Global Fund mission in order to better understand the Global Fund’s resource restitution conference and the expectation for Gabon.
In addition, civil society has officially provided advocacy letters to the embassies of the following countries: USA, China, Japan, Japan, Italy and France for a fully funded Global Fund.
